About Pak Army

Learn everything about Pakistan Army and how it can be the best option for your career.

Introduction & History:

The Pakistan Army, established in 1947 after independence from British rule, is the principal land warfare branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces. Headquartered in Rawalpindi, it ranks among the world’s largest and most highly disciplined active military forces.

Historically, the Army’s trajectory has been shaped by major conflicts, including multiple conventional wars with India, the prolonged war on terror, and complex counter-insurgency operations in its tribal regions. These experiences have forged it into a deeply resilient, battle-tested institution.

Beyond its primary defense mandate, the Army plays a foundational role in national stability. It frequently leads domestic disaster relief, infrastructure development, and internal security operations. Internationally, it remains one of the largest and most consistent contributors to global United Nations peacekeeping missions.

Training After Joining:

The training framework within the Pakistan Armed Forces is carefully tiered, aligning the nature of instruction with the operational responsibilities of each cadre.

1. Enlisted Soldier (Sipahi)

    • Duration: Typically 9 months of mandatory basic military training.
    • Location: Conducted at dedicated branch-specific regimental training centers across the country (e.g., the Armoured Corps Center in Nowshera, or PNS Himalaya for the Navy).
    • Focus: Core instruction emphasizes rigid discipline, physical stamina, basic drill, handling weapons, camouflage, field-craft, and immediate tactical response maneuvers. Upon completion, soldiers pass out directly into their active combat or service units.

2. Commissioned Officer

    • Duration: 2 years for regular entry (such as the standard PMA Long Course), split into progressive 6-month terms. Short or technical courses run between 6 to 12 months.
    • Location: Handled by elite federal service academies, most notably the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) Kakul in Abbottabad.
    • Focus: An intense mix of academic degrees (military science, strategic geography, international relations) paired with high-intensity leadership development, advanced weaponry, tactical combat simulations, navigation, and executive decision-making under stress.

3. Civilian Staff

  • Duration & Structure: No boot-camp or physical combat training. Instead, civilian personnel undergo a structured 1 to 4-week professional orientation and job-specific training program upon appointment.
  • Location: Undertaken at institutional defense secretariats, civilian training wings, or technical depots.
  • Focus: Instruction is strictly non-combat, focusing entirely on federal administrative protocols, service rules, data management, logistics systems, financial accounting, or specialized technical/engineering maintenance required to support the military’s broader infrastructure.

Salary & Other Benefits

The Pakistan Army follow standardized federal scales where entry-level soldiers start around PKR 35,000–45,000, newly commissioned officers (2nd Lt / Sub Lt / Captain) earn approximately PKR 75,000–95,000 (rising to PKR 120,000+ with gross field allowances), and civilian staff receive PKR 25,000–35,000 for support staff (BPS 1–4) or PKR 70,000–120,000 depending on the BPS.

Benefits:

  • Allowances: Monthly allocations for house rent, comprehensive medical coverage, conveyance, and special high-risk or field-duty allowances.
  • Healthcare: Free medical treatment for the personnel and their immediate family members at military hospitals.
  • Education & Housing: Subsidized education for children and institutional assistance with real estate or official housing plots.
  • Retirement Security: A lifetime pension, gratuity, and long-term post-retirement support networks.
